Dear Minister Guilbeault,

We are on Day 3 of our Treaty People’s Briefing, our attempt to give you access to vital community knowledge on the Ring of Fire.

You’ve probably heard that the Ring of Fire isn’t on the traditional territories of those opposing it. But there’s more to the story. Today’s part of the Treaty Peoples’ Briefing comes from Chief Wayne Moonias, of Neskantaga First Nation. In this video, Chief Wayne talks about how integral the river system is to all communities in Treaty 9, and how interconnected these neighbouring communities really are. The video we’re sending you today is just one part of a series of diverse voices on this issue. Keep an eye out for more as we keep sharing them. We hope that these perspectives will help you see why you need to start fresh with a Regional Assessment that is led by Indigenous communities.
